Position Summary:

Campbell University, a private institution in Buies Creek, North Carolina dedicated to educating students in a Christian environment and developing exemplary academic and professional skills, is seeking the next Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical & Clinical Sciences within the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS).

This is a twelve-month appointment (tenure track associate or full Professor) and reports directly to the Dean of CPHS. The Chair will have responsibility over all aspects of several degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS), Bachelor of Science in Clinical Research (BSCR), Bachelor of Applied Science in Clinical Research (BASCR), Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MSPS), and Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR).  Responsibilities also include departmental budget oversight, faculty and staff development, maintaining communication, enhancing department visibility both on and off campus, and interdepartmental collaboration across programs the department supports including the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

The Chair will serve on the Pharmacy Leadership Council and CPHS Executive Committee with the Dean, Chairs, and Directors of Pharmacy Practice, Physician Assistant, Public Health, Physical Therapy, and Nursing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Chair is expected to be a person with exceptional leadership skills including communication, delegation, collaboration, and advocacy development. This individual should be comfortable managing multiple priorities, competing pressures, and reacting quickly to opportunities and challenges as they arise. The Chair’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Oversee all aspects of the department’s degree offerings including the BSPS, BSCR, BASCR, MSPS, MSCR and associated dual-degree programs.
  • Oversee and support personnel development (promotion/tenure, training, professional education, interprofessional education, annual reviews, faculty research and collaboration).
  • Develop and expand experiential and industry relationships to foster opportunities and program growth.
  • Serve as primary Departmental advocate to enhance the visibility of Departmental programs on and off campus.
  • Collaborate with Pharmacy Practice Chair to provide effective instruction to student pharmacists.
  • Oversee Departmental programming and operations including research administration, research conduction, and the Pharmaceutical Education and Research Center (PERC - CPHS contract analytical/formulation facility).
  • Manage department allocation of fiscal and human resources including faculty teaching assignments.
  • Coordinate intradepartmental and interdepartmental communication.
  • Manage, supervise, and develop professional and administrative staff (e.g., training, professional education) in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Administration.
  • Provide didactic instruction when appropriate.
  • Serve on the Pharmacy Leadership Council and the college Executive Committee.
  • Promote excellence in teaching and student development.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX and Information Security, including but not limited to; HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

Education/Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Research, or related field from an accredited school required.
  • Previous leadership or management experience required.
  • Ten years of professional/industry experience and 5 years of higher education experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise excellent judgment and maintain composure in complex, new and/or challenging situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a dynamic environment.
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
  • Broad knowledge of Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.
