Description

Lorain County Community College’s (LCCC), Division of Health & Wellness Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time, Program Director tenure- track faculty position. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the Clinical Laboratory Science Technology and Phlebotomy Programs, as well as teaching in both programs. In addition, LCCC’s Clinical Laboratory Science Technology (CLSC MLT) and Phlebotomy (PHBL) Programs are accredited through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

LCCC faculty activities will vary among different classifications of faculty, within different educational disciplines, and over time. Not all of the duties and activities will be applicable to every faculty member in any given year.

All full-time faculty members are responsible for the following:

  • Adheres to College policies and procedures.
  • Develops an individualized work plan annually, in consultation with the Division Dean (Reference: Policy III-430: Faculty Loads, Faculty Load and Reassignment Guidelines).
  • Pursues and attains tenure.
  • Participates in the assessment of student academic achievement.
  • Participates in college governance and policy-making.
  • Engages in scholarship and professional growth.
  • Participates in discipline-related activities and organizations.
  • Supports the College mission, vision, and values.
  1. Teaching Faculty

The primary responsibility of teaching faculty is student learning. To fulfill this responsibility, teaching faculty will:

  • Responsible for all aspects of teaching and delivering the credit courses to which he/she is assigned.
  • Participates in curriculum and program development, including academic program review.
  • Advises students in curricular and discipline-related matters when appropriate.
  • Assesses student academic achievement.

 Additional details regarding Program Director responsibilities:

  1. NAACLS Accreditation Director
  • Communicates with NAACLS
  • Prepares NAACLS reports and materials
  • Responsible for the organization, administration, and continuous quality improvement of the CLSC (MLT)/PHBT programs
  • Engages in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years.
  1. Advisor for students
  • Advises students in person and electronically throughout the semester
  • Meets with individual students
  • Assists students with planning their schedule and understanding curriculum
  • Collaborates with College Advising staff to assist students and answer questions
  • Has regular and consistent content with students
  1. Program Development:
  • Assesses curriculum effectiveness, with input from faculty
  • Evaluates program success, following graduates’ success at other institutions and with employers.
  • Introduces new curriculum with faculty input
  • Recommends program budgets to the Dean.
  •  
  1. Course Schedules
  • Recommends program course schedules for each semester to the Dean.
  1. Staff and Faculty supervision
  • Scheduling of instructional assignments for adjuncts
  • Collecting feedback and input about adjuncts and reviewing student evaluations.
  • Resource person and contact person for adjuncts
  • Has regular and consistent contact with faculty and program personnel
  1. Facilitates information flow
  • Schedules meetings for both program faculty at least once a semester
  • Schedules ongoing full-time faculty meetings
  • Email contact about CLS (MLT) and PHBL developments and news relevant to both programs.
  • Collects and distributes information to all program faculy.
  • Relates/resolves faculty concerns regarding matters in CLS (MLT) and PHBL programs.
  • Serves as the liaison between LCCC and the Clinical Affiliates
  • Chairs the annual advisory council meeting for CLSC(MLT)/PHBT programs
  1. Serves as Contact person for outside agencies accessing program or requesting program assistance
  • Directs information to faculty, students, and staff as needed.
  • Liaison for visits to LCCC and to the Division.
  • Participates in academic/health fairs to market programs and recruit students.
  • Visits to specific high school and adult learner classes.

The salary is commensurate with experience and supported by a comprehensive fringe benefits package.



Requirements

Required Qualifications:

The program director must be a medical laboratory professional who:

    - has an earned master’s or doctoral degree;

    - holds ASCP‐BOC or ASCP-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist;

    - has three years of teaching experience;

    - has knowledge of education methods and administration, as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Program Director experience
  • Five years teaching experience at the College level
