Description

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), in partnership with the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) Board of Directors and Nursing Foundation (NFP) Board of Trustees, is responsible for the success of PSNA and NFP. Together, the Board and Trustees assure: (1) PSNA/NFP’s relevance to the profession, its members, donors, and the community; (2) the accomplishment of their respective visions and missions; and (3) the accountability of PSNA/NFP to its diverse constituents.

The Board and Trustees delegate responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the CEO. She/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board and Trustees. The CEO provides direction to the Board and Trustees as they carry out their functions.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a master’s degree.
  • A Pennsylvania nursing license is required for this position within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must be/become a resident of Pennsylvania within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of executive healthcare leadership experience.
  • Must have experience with organizational management and strategic planning.
  • Non-profit management experience preferred.
  • High integrity leadership.
  • Experience with the budget process, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Ability to convey a vision of PSNA/NFP’s strategic future to staff, Board, volunteers, and donors.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with Chief of Staff, directors, and staff.
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse membership, volunteer, and donor groups.
  • Strong managerial abilities including pre-planning, delegating, and program development process.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness and self-wellness practices.

Responsibilities

Board Governance:

  • Works with the PSNA Board of Directors and NFP Board of Trustees to fulfill the association/foundation mission.
  • Responsible for leading PSNA/NFP in a manner that supports and guides the vision, mission, and strategic plan as defined by the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees, providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary to function properly and make informed decisions.

Financial Performance and Viability:

  • Cultivates and allocates resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the association.
